Kundalini Yoga for Children ~ Shakta Kaur (VA), (KY) Water Tent
Learn how to share the technology of Kundalini Yoga and meditation in ways that are age-appropriate and fun for children from toddlers to teens. Class includes a special section on yoga for organizing the nervous system and brain-balancing for typical children, as well as those with ADHD and Autism, and a comprehensive handout.
Shakta Khalsa is one of the world’s leading experts on children and yoga, having worked with both since the mid-1970s. She is a trained yoga professional at the highest level (ERYT-500), and was named one of the top five Kundalini Yoga teachers in the world by Yoga Journal. She studied under the direct guidance of Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga.
She is a parent, an AMS certified Montessori teacher since 1982, and the author of five well-known yoga books, including the classic Fly Like A Butterfly: Yoga for Children and Kundalini Yoga.
Shakta’s two great loves—children and yoga—are the basis for her life work: Radiant Child® Yoga, an internationally-known training program for teaching children yoga and working with/raising children consciously.
Shakta lives in Herndon, Virginia with her husband of 33 years, Kartar, and their son, Ram Das, who is a student at George Mason University. When she is not traveling or working with RCY, she loves to dance, write, walk in the woods with the two family dogs, Annie and Zeus, or relax at home with her two cats, Angus and Loki.
“What I do with children is unique, because in everything I do I address the body, mind, and spirit of the child. And I do this in ways that speak to the child, ways that are fun as well as effective. When I look at a child, I see a “big” soul in a small body. Every time I relate to a child in that awareness, I find, without fail, that the child will reflect that same consciousness back to me.”
