Check out this ad for Summer Solstice from 1974! 40 years ago we were 'low-tech' and low key. Silence was observed for one week! The 'What to Bring' list was way shorter.   

 This is the famous quote included in the ad, in case you can't read it:   

"It is pleasant today that we are together. There are weaknesses in us, but so long as we will do three things we'll never fall apart. Remember those three things: Meditate on God in the morning; stay united--unity is strength; and continue celebrating Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice. These are the two times when the magnetic field on the Earth shifts. You must get together and do nothing but meditate. These two times should be your best holidays. You should never miss them.
