Kolkata Sanved: Dance Movement Therapy to Rehabilitate Survivors of Sex-Slavery in India

In 2012, Kundalini Yoga Instructor and Activist Allison Benner raised funds to combat sex slavery in India and rehabilitate survivors. In February 2013, she traveled to India to meet the people and organizations she was supporting. Kolkata Sanved stood out as a sustainable, holistic, and cost-effective model for healing.

Kolkata Sanved offers Dance Movement Therapy to rehabilitate girls who have been rescued from sex slavery in India. Many of these young women then train to become Dance Movement Therapists themselves and go out into marginalized communities to share this healing modality with children living with HIV, people in government mental health institutions, children of sex workers, domestic workers, and children of the railway platforms and slums.
